The Otolaryngologist

Good job guessing guys!! An otolaryngologist is a fancy name for an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat specialist). When they referred me to the "otolaryngologist" I had to ask them to spell it twice because I had no idea what they were saying. So this morning Abby, McKenna and I drove to the nearest pediatric otolaryngologist in our area. The trip took about 1 1/2 hours one way, so that meant it was an early morning and to add to the excitement we've had our first snow today. I just love to drive to new places in the snow and sleet. It makes reading directions while driving extra fun :)

The verdict is that Miss McKenna is going to get tubes in her ears on January 14th. Dr. S thinks that McKenna has probably had the same ear infection since August, since the fluid has never cleared from her ear. She's only ever had that one infection in that one ear, but we're going to put tubes in both ears. Dr. S felt like that was a good idea because as soon as she does get an infection in the "good" ear, she may never get over that one either and then we would have to go through the risk, expense and hassle of all of this all over again. There also is a slight chance that she may have some kind of cyst in her ear that could be causing these issues. He won't know until he's operating and that could change the plan at that point. And believe it or not, her ear was looking good last Friday when I had her at the doctor and today she's in the early stages of an ear infection. So she's on ANOTHER antibiotic! Grrr!!

When I rocked McKenna to sleep for her nap today I prayed for her, for Dr. S and for the whole procedure and I feel great about it. I prayed last night as I was falling asleep that God would make this decision very clear and easy to make and I feel like it was. I know it's not going to be fun to pass her off to complete strangers and walk away. I dread the thought of the "no eating or drinking after midnight" rule. She's not going to be happy the morning of the surgery. But I know that this is super routine and that it's not a big deal at all. I should know, I've had it done! So that was our morning! Stay tuned for picture of my snow bunnies!!

i'm glad she's getting tubes! Did they say anything about her adenoids? I wish I would have had Natalie's out when her tubes were done :(

i think it will totally change ALL of your lives. My sister dreaded it, but then once it was done, it was like she had a different baby !!! she'll do great - they'll schedule her early int he morning so the no eating thing isn't too terrible and it's a quick procedure and will be done with.. still i'll be praying for peace for you too!
