Missing Them

Emma, Abby and Nate are spending some time with their daddy in Massachusetts for the next few days and Christian is not so happy about it. This is just a taste of the dialog that's been going on in my house this weekend.

Me: "We're going to church tomorrow."
Christian: "Nate coming too? I want Nate coming!"

Daddy: "Lets go get a snack at Mikie's (an ice cream place.)"
Christian: " Abby and Nate coming?"

Me: "Christian, let's read a book."
Christian: "No, Emma read me a book."

Auntie Amy shows up at the door:
Christian: "Abby and Nate coming?"

Bedtime:
Christian: "I miss Emma. I miss Abby and Nate. They come to my house tomorrow."
Me: "No, they're still on a trip with their daddy. "
Christian: "I go too?"

I think it's funny how Christian groups Abby and Nate together and then Emma separately. He's used to having Abby and Nate at our house together during the school year and now that school is out there are some days when it's just Emma. He doesn't think of the three of them together. I just think that's a little interesting.
Christian has also been wanting to get the mail constantly since they left. Abby knew that Christian was sad to say goodbye so she told him that she would send him a "baseball letter" in the mail. I didn't think much of it at the time, but Christian has not forgotten. I guess I'm going to have to make up some kind-0f baseball card and stick it in the mailbox tomorrow so he'll be satisfied :)
So much for my child who LOVED being an only child. He goes outside to play and then is knocking on the sliding glass door three minutes later. He doesn't know what to do with himself without anyone else around. I guess I'm going to have to borrow someone elses children until the cousins get back.

You do have a rather unique situation in that the nieces and nephew are more like siblings than cousins to your kids. I would imagine that Christian is probably feeling a little left out that they got to go and he did not. Maybe you could schedule some play dates or special activities until they get back or maybe he will just have to get through this tough time! Poor little guy!

Isn't it amazing what a few months will do!!! Enjoy these days with just your two - I'm sure you hardly know what to do with yourself too!!! And as for the "grouping of the cousins", my boys are the same. They only talk about "luke and john", and occasionally mention "mary". Never all 3 together, and poor baby matthew still gets left out entirely!!

I'm sure that Emma, Abby, and Nate miss Christian (and the rest of the family) as much as he misses them!~Love, Heather
