Little Miss McKenna

In case you've been wondering, McKenna is still pretty sick. She has been running a fever of 100 degrees or over (as high as 102.4) for nine days now. We've been to the doctor three times and had tons of tests done and everyone tells me it's a virus. I'm pretty stressed about it because her cough is terrible and I don't know what to do to help her. She has a rough time sleeping because she coughs so much, so I've been breaking all the rules. She's been sleeping with a pillow under her head (I know, I know, you should never do that...but she's not rolling over yet so I'm not too worried). I've also let her sleep with me (I know, I know I'm totally against co-sleeping, but right now I'm just trying to survive). Last night I almost took her to the hospital because her fever spiked again and it was almost 102. I feel like she really needs a nebulizer treatment or something to help break up the congestion in her chest, but so far no one with a medical degree agrees with me, so we're just waiting this out.
Feel free to give me some feedback about this. I will be taking her to the doctor AGAIN on Monday if she still has a fever. I think nine days of a fever is a few too many at this point, but maybe it is a virus. I haven't been that assertive with the doctors because I really want to trust their judgement, but I do have a pretty sick girl that needs to get better. At least she loves the taste of Tylenol!

I am sorry that McKenna is still sick. There is nothing worse than a sick Baby! I agree that it is time for you to be assertive with the doctors. You are with your child 24/7 you know what is normal and what is not. If she is still running that high of a fever tomorrow I would consider taking her into the urgent care center since you liked the way they treated your son. I think you are totally on track to be concerned about that fever, she is awfully young to be so sick for so long. I will say a special prayer for her tonight. Let us know how she is doing.

Yes that is the worst thing to have a sick baby and not now what to do. I usually get a high level of stress and worry but Matt is the calm one! He reminds me that God loves our babies more than we do. So as much as we try to do and want to do to take care of them, God still cares more! And everytime one of my children get sick I wonder if God is asking me to trust Him like He did to Abraham with Isaac? Judy, we will be praying for you and your sweet family and know that God is watching over you and is holding your sweet baby in His arms. On the practical note. What exactly is going on? You said she is coughing, and has a fever. Does she have a runny nose, vomiting? Is she eating normal and wet diapers? I am sure these are all question your doctor asks you. But sometimes I worry that taking them to the hospital will put them in a more uncomfortable situation than mommy holding them. Love ya Heidi Harris

So after reading a little more of your blogs I feel my last letter was not compassionate enough. I am sorry! I do know how it feels to worry about high fevers. That is the worst sickness yet in my book. I hate high fevers. If taking her to the doctor makes you feet better than do it. I would take her to the doctor before the hospital though, unless the doc. sends her. I usually panic the most around 103. and up. One thing I have done to help in the middle of the night when the heat gets the worst is lay a cool cloth on their head while sleeping and let it stay there. Also Maxine has always told me rubbing alchohol on a cloth on the bare bottom take temps down. Love Ya Heidi Harris

Oh Jude, I am so sorry that Mckenna is still sick. You are right to go with your gut. I have been told that viruses with fevers can last ten days and after that (especially in one McKenna's age) you should keep pestering the DR to look further. God gave us that motherly instinct for a very good reason, we often know more than the DRS!!I will continue to pray for you guys and for a fresh healing to fall over your home., This must be really draining you right now. I know that our heavenly Father is holding you both and his grace is indeed enough for each moment. Once again it is one of those moments hwere you have to give McKenna back to the Lord and continue to trust that he has her in the palm of his had. I find that I have to do it daily with my boys adn soemtimes multiplr times daily! It is so easy to think that we are the ones to fix it for them but it is God who gives us the wisdom and Dr's wisdom and knowledge and certainly strength to get to the other side.
